Lakers News: Dwight Howard wants award back

Posted by shawn cassidy on October 23, 2012 at 7:00 AM

Tyson Chandler   won the league's DPOY last season, ending Howard's three-year run as the award winner. Howard felt like he should have won the award for a 4th year in a row. Howard's gunning for the award right out of the gates, but I have news for you. Rondo, and KG should be valiant challengers. But look at Howard this way. He's not worrying about a championship. He's busy talking about a personal award.

If Rondo grabs six-seven rebounds, and if he leads the league in steals, and if the Celtics own most of the defensive categories like they normally do. Than Rondo should be the DPOY, like Paul has said on this site many times.

"I thought I should have won it last year, to be honest with you," Howard told reporters after practice Monday. "I was a little bit upset about that."

"I felt like I did my job to win it. I also feel like I didn't because of the whole situation," Howard said, referring to the uncertainty surrounding his future with the Magic and the distraction it became. "That played a factor in it."

I love how Howard says it was because of his self inflected situation last season. What an ass.

Wow. The towering ego. But, the thing is, I'd love to see Rondo set his sights on that award, not because I want to see him have Howard's silly ego, but because it would be a key building block for this team. I know that Rondo thinks he has to save his energy for the offensive end, but if he could put defensive clamps on his opposing number more, that would be huge for the team defense.
