The Celtics flexed their defensive muscle for really the first time this season. They forced the Wizards to miss 11 shots in a row, and they held the Wiz to 21% in the first, and they only allowed 12 points. Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 27 points on 10-of-22 shooting on the night, and he returned to form after his dismal game against the Bucks. The Celtics allowed the Wizards to stick around in this game. The Celtics put up a 17-2 lead in the first, and the defensive armor cracked once the second unit came in.

So the Wiz stayed within 6-10 points for most of the night. In the final 3 minutes or so. The Wizards grabbed a small lead, and the Celtics would take the lead back, and they would never let go. The Celtics locked down on defense to pick up their first win of the season.

Kevin Garnett chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds. Rajon Rondo added his usual double-double, scoring 12 points to go along with 12 assists and five rebounds. For me the real story was the bench of the Wizards. Jordan Crawford torched the Celtics, and the Wizards bench scored over 60 points as a whole.

Jeff Green put in 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting in just 16 minutes of action. Green has improved since his poor performance in Miami. Were still waiting for a breakout game from Jason Terry. Terry is going to show up. Jared Sullinger had his first start in his NBA career, contributing four points and seven rebounds over 30 minutes. The Celtics won an ugly game, but honestly. The Celtics have dropped so many games through the years like this. In a second night on a back-to-back, and on the road the Celtics have lost leads, and lost games. Tonight they survived.

Yeah it's the truth. 26 points in the paint compared to the Wizards 32. Just not good.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time putting things in a positive light, Birdman. I don't think it's too early for Danny to start looking at moves. That said, we do have a lot of talent, and it will take time for things to gel. I think Jared has to start. KG clearly is not really all about being a center. Let's play the one guy on the team who actually likes being a center. He'll have to fight through rough challenges, and it won't be easy, but if the guards play with intensity and urgency on D, he can do it.
