Are there eight teams in the Eastern Conference better than the Celtics?
In the NBA, eight teams from each conference make the playoffs. In the Eastern Conference, there are five undeniably better teams that will likely beat up on the young Celtics all season. Those five teams include: the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.
Of the 10 remaining teams, only three will get into the playoffs. We can immediately rule out the Orlando Magic, Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards as contenders for the final three spots, bringing the list of competitive teams down to only six teams.
The future of the Boston Celtics next season hinges on how they play against the five teams they will be competing with for the final three playoff spots: the Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers.
As of right now everyone loves the Cavs to be one of the top lower seeds in the Eastern Conference. I agree that they will challenge for one of the last three spots, and I believe if Bynum plays that they will make the playoffs for the first time since James bolted for Miami. So let's say the Cavs get that 6th spot in the East. Who gets the final two spots? The Pistons? They added Josh Smith, and Brandon Jennings. Those are two All-Star type players, but are they take your team to the next level kind of players? The Raptors will have a full season with Rudy Gay, and that's something that could improve their chances. The Bucks have added and subtracted, and I think the team will have to many chemistry issues to contend with. The Hawks are kind of in the same boat as the Bucks. They've added and subtracted talented players, and I don't know if it was for the best or not at this point.
The Celtics questions come with a rookie coach taking over, and when will Rondo return, and how effective will he be when he does play. Prediciting the Celtics this season is near impossible. The only for sure thing is that they won't win banner 18 this season.
