Rondo had his most Rondo like stat line Sunday. He posted 13 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds. His passing was spot on, but the issues was simple. His team isn't ready for those brilliant passes, or you could say maybe Rondo needs to dumb his game down until they understand what he's doing. Rondo in my book has been a little bit three-point happy, he did nail a few so. Overall Rondo is moving along nicely. I do believe in time he'll speed it up, and he'll take the ball to the rim.
The issue with Rondo is his defense. He was once the best defensive point in the game, for a good 3-4 year stretch, even made a few All-Defensive teams. Rondo does play his man square on, he gives too many angles, and his gambling has gotten worse. Please Rondo change your defensive style.
I'm feeling better," Rondo said. "I knew my minutes increased a little bit, but coach (Brad Stevens) was well aware of my minutes. I try to do the best I can, stay ready on the sideline when I was out."
While it may seem that Rondo's on the fast track with his minutes, Stevens said he's actually progressing at the rate they anticipated.
"He played more minutes (on Sunday), and that was by design," Stevens said. "I was told we were good to go to 30 minutes. That probably helps him get a better rhythm when he's in the game; those five-minute stints aren't that fun to play as a player. You can never get a real flow or rhythm. But he played the last eight minutes and 42 seconds and had pretty good wind most of the time."
Still, Stevens isn't close to declaring that Rondo's back to being Rondo.
"I still think he's game 5 of exhibition season, and I think he'll continue to get better," Stevens said.
I find it to great that Rondo was on pace for a triple-double in 30 minutes. If he plays another 5 minutes, then he has it. But to be fair, I don't care about the numbers just yet. It's what we see with our naked eye. Can he do certain things, and has he found his quickness. That's what I want to see, and of course his defense. Rondo will be back. Maybe a couple games away?
