The Celtics have two centers who bring two different things to the table. Wilcox is the scorer, and Collins is the defensive minded one. Although Wilcox is a scoring center. He's still inconsistent at that end, and the same goes for Collins on defense.
"He’s spotty. We want him to be more consistent," said Rivers. "We talk about guys doing their job. He has really one great job he has to do: he has to be our defensive energy guy, and then on offense he has to run the floor. He has to do that consistently and I don’t think he does that yet, but I think he’s gotten better in practices each time and definitely in the games."
Wilcox missed 19 games, and he's slowly getting back, and honestly I like his progress so far. I would like to see his defense improve. But he's doing okay. As for Collins Doc had this to say.
"You know, I don’t care about the statistical part of it, he’s just been doing [good things] all year," said coach Doc Rivers. "It’s funny, my oldest son was at [Friday's] game [versus Orlando] and he said, ‘Golly, every time Jason Collins comes in something good happens.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, Jeremiah, it’s really a wise statement.’ He’s right. [Collins] doesn’t do bad things; he just does a lot of good things.”
I'm actually shocked by how well Collins has played this season. His stats won't show. But with Wilcox, and Collins. I still think the Celtics need one big who can do more than Wilcox, and Collins. Sully is gone as well, so we have lost the best rebounder on the team. I honestly don't care if the Celtics grab a point guard. I just want a big who can rebound, and protect the rim. It's all I really want.
