The 6-foot-11 big man is the only true center on the C's roster. Faverani has showcased a skill set that will only make him better when Rajon Rondo returns. I always look at the preseason as half the truth, will get to see guys like Vitor go up against players who may not be in the NBA the next day. Faverani came off the bench to score 11 points to go with six rebounds. If he can continues to show signs of rebounding, and scoring in the pant, who say's he can't start at center?
So far the only issue that Vitor faces is the language barrier with teammats, and coaches.
As far as the diversity he showed scoring the ball on Wednesday, Faverani said, "It's my game when I come here the first time. This is my game, physical game, try to get dunks and shots open."
C's coach Brad Stevens has been pleased with the progress Faverani has made since the first day of training camp.
"Did I think he would be able to do this on Day One in Newport? No," Stevens said. "He's getting more comfortable. He still has a little bit of a language barrier, but he runs what we want to run out of time-outs. He doesn't have any problem translating what we're trying to do on the court."
There was one possession in the game in which the C's were telling Faverani to "roll" to the basket, and he instead launched a long jumper.
Still, Faverani did more than enough good things Wednesday to have both him and the Celtics feeling good about his play going forward.
"I'm very, very happy," he said. "If the dunks can help my teammates, I can show the coach I can play in the NBA. I'm very, very happy."
All I have to say is that I can't wait to see if Rondo and this guy gel. I think this is the type of center that Rondo needs. He has good hands, and he knows how to finish with ease. I think it's just about Vitor continuing that when the games matter. So far he's out played Bass, and to be honest. I'm rooting for Vitor to take some of those minutes. I didn't know what to expect out of the big man, but so far he's impressed me, and I know has most Celtic fans. Let's just hope he can continue down the right path.
