The Mavericks shocked the world, and their back in the finals for the first time since 2006. If your not going to see a Celtics vs Lakers finals,or even a Heat vs Lakers finals. You want to see a re-match of 2006. The teams are different, and the league has changed, but two of the superstar's are still on their respected teams. Dirk and Wade both took their teams to the finals in 2006,and Wade won the finals MVP,after the Mavs lost the last 4 games in the championship series. Dirk and the Mavs have not recovered from that collapse, and in the following season they had the best record, and Dirk won MVP,but the Mavs became victims in an upset to the Warriors in the first round in the 2007 playoffs.
The Mavericks will be the under dogs going into this seasons finals. The Mavericks will get their revenge 5 years later,or they become the stepping stone in Lebrons first NBA championship. It's a great storyline to me if the Celtics are not in the finals. I'm happy to see Dirk get another crack at a title. He's not Larry Bird, but a title will put him up a notch in the talk of great players.
As for game 5 tonight. The Thunder lost in the final minutes after holding a good size lead late in the 4th. The Thunder got their turnovers down, but Westbrook had two big turnovers in the final minutes, and the Mavericks made the Thunder pay. Shawn Marion put in another vintage game with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.Westbrook had 31 points, but his costly turnovers pretty much cost the Thunder their season.
Dirk Nowitzki leads the NBA in fourth quarter scoring this postseason, largely on the strength of his performance against the Thunder in the conference finals.Dirk averages 11.4 in the 4th quarter. Dirk has played like the former MVP,and this could be his last chance to grab a ring, and I believe this is it for Dirk, He's 32,and this team is older now.
I think the Mavs need to split in Miami assuming that's who they play. If they do that, I see them winning the title this season. I like the Mavs chances to win their first NBA title as a franchise.
